I designed and built this surfboard for my senior capstone project. I'm an industrial design major so we had to create an entirely new product for a design showcase.

 

Traditional surfboard manufacturing is a known environmental and human health hazard. The most harmful aspects of the process are the materials used and the chemicals released during the construction. I explored alternative materials for construction in hopes of creating a new board that has a much less detrimental impact on our environment.

 

This combination of materials has never been used to create a surfboard before, making it completely one-of-a-kind and all natural. I used a 6' 3" performance fish template from blendingcurves.com to create the shape, giving it the feel of a standard board. I also handcrafted the fins that were glassed onto the board.
